Echometry

(Ehos + Metron = Sound + Measure)

The system elucidates the correlation between the human brain and the sound of various melodic musical instruments in Western Musical culture.

It serves as an educational tool for "Ear Training-Music Writing," encompassing A-B-C-D-E-F-G and DO-RE-MI-FA-SOL-LA-TI teaching systems across all seven octaves.

Featuring a "Signature Wheel" for all Greek Modes, comprehensive vocal instruction, instant composition capabilities, and more, Echometry offers a wealth of musical resources at your fingertips. Welcome to an enriching musical experience!

Echometry has been over 40 years in the making and is the brainchild of Alex A. Sioris, a 65-year-old resident of Los Angeles, California, and owner of Marina Music Center for over three decades. As an accomplished musician and theorist, Alex has developed a novel method that simplifies music learning by integrating visual and audio techniques.

Theory & Data

A "Sound Cell" is the central visual element displayed on the screen representing a clock-like circle with twelve consecutively numbered sound positions, known as the Chromatic Scale.

The primary cognitive technique our brain employs in comprehending music theory is dividing the twelve notes into groups.

Within these groups, three notes out of twelve form what is commonly known as Triads - Major, Minor, Diminished, Augmented, and Suspended, constituting five triadic structures.

By adding one more note, we arrive at Tetrads such as Dominant seventh, Minor sixth, Minor 7 flat 5, Major 7, totaling thirty-six such tetrads.

With the addition of one more note to form the Pentatonic Scale (5 out of 12), alongside the popular Diatonic Scale (7 out of 12), this application becomes a versatile tool for studying Triads, Pentatonic and Diatonic scales. Furthermore, it offers instant scale transposition for a range of musical instruments.

The various names like Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, etc., refer to what music schools classify as Diatonic Scales or Modes. These scales are either Heptatonic (7 out of 12) or Pentatonic (5 out of 12). Combining seven and five yields the Chromatic scale - considered the foundational scale encompassing all twelve notes.
